Whether an installer commissioning a new IoT system, a service engineer attending an IoT equipment failure or breakdown situation, a consultant or project manager investigating the suitability of a green field site for industrial IoT deployment, the cellular network is the essential link in the chain that will need to be tested to ensure presence and connection reliability.

There are a range of methods and solutions out there for doing this, but they are either only able to give a rough idea of the presence of a base-station or they take an inordinate amount of time to build up the true picture of the local cell towers. In some cases test methods may involve swopping SIMs in phones to survey the local communications network. At the other end of the scale test equipment like spectrum analysers, which have their place for in depth study of transmissions and waveforms, are overkill and cost prohibitive for those who require to gain a relatively quick assessment of the cellular landscape.

It was from this background that Siretta developed the SNYPER family of cellular signal analysers. It began with the first model being a 2G analyser, and further models have been added over the years as the 3G and LTE networks developed. Today, there are now 6 models in the range, and each analyser is designed to survey the local area and return results from all “visible” base-stations for the network technology being surveyed e.g. LTE, 3G, 2G, LTE CATM, NB IoT.

The entry level models will conduct a survey and can save it to the analyser’s storage facility. As you progress up the range to the Spectrum, multiple surveys can be saved, plus a feature called LiveSCAN allows you to perform an immediate sweep of the survey taken with a directional antenna to assist with antenna alignment.

For those who wish to have all of the above features and be able to leave the analyser in situ to repeatedly survey an area so that it can be fully assessed over say a few hours or even a week then the Graphyte model will provide the means to do this, as well as perform LiveSCAN logging against a specific selected base-station.

In all cases, results that exist on the analyser can be downloaded to a PC and viewed in CSV or impressive graphical format, making it easy to make decisions on best or most suitable network provider. Siretta also has the facility of a subscription based portal where results can be stored and where maps can be accessed showing approximate locations of the base-stations surveyed.
