The Siretta range of industrial low power modem solutions are a family of cellular enabled modems which have been designed to an industrial specification to allow an easy connection for remote devices over the internet. The family of products supports a standard set of features including low power operation with a wide range and robust power supply, RS232 and USB serial connectivity and extended temperature spec as standard.

Each member of the modem family supports an embedded TCP/IP stack for simple network connectivity and an enhanced set of AT commands to support many advanced features such as FTP, email, SMS, CSD, direct data socket connections and over the air software updates. As a result the units are designed to be used as a direct replacement for existing equipment and can be easily setup with the correct commands to operate out-of-the-box.

In addition to the data communication services offered by the industrial low power modem family, they can also be configured to detect the cellular network provider, signal strength and perform a complete network survey to establish the optimum network for the location.

Siretta Industrial Low Power Modem Application Example

The power supply has been designed to cope with difficult operating environments such as wide voltage spikes seen with an engine cranking and also extremes of operation at low and high voltage operation. With the latest application developments there is a requirement for solutions to run on a much lower power budget and as a result Siretta has designed a family of extremely low power products. These products encompass an intelligent power management solution to shut down power to any non essential components and reduce consumption to an absolute minimum. When running the cellular engine in its lowest power state these devices can operate at less than 1mA whilst remaining connected to the cellular network. This means that they are always online and available to respond to incoming data socket connections whilst drawing substantially lower power than existing solutions.

The Siretta industrial low power modem family also support eSIM profiles to allow multiple SIM profiles to be stored within the cellular engine. This allows users to specify in real time which network they want to connect to and enables a global connectivity platform to take advantage of different pricing structures around the globe. Profiles can also be downloaded in to the unit once they have been shipped in to the field which means that there is no longer a need for an engineering visit.

Siretta industrial managed modem solutions are intelligent modems which have been designed to connect remote equipment over a TCP/IP connection to a central location. Very little knowledge is required to setup the modem and configure the Siretta linkCONNECT solution. The unit can be setup to operate out-of-the-box and configured remotely via SMS once in the field or alternatively it can be pre-configured before deployment via a serial configuration tool.

The configuration of the managed modem solutions is controlled by the user simply using command SMS messages sent from a standard mobile phone. Alternatively when configuring large volumes of units there is a configuration tool which configures the unit over RS232 serial and can be replicated very quickly to aid the production programming. The configuration can be saved to a ‘.gtc’ file which can be deployed and re-used in multiple locations and production environments.

The managed modem solution deals with all common cellular network issues and maintains a robust connection to the cellular network which enables a consistent communication channel with your remote equipment. The units are configurable as a dial-up client using either static or dynamic IP SIMs or alternatively as a dial-in server device using a static fixed IP SIM card. This offers the most flexibility to gain access to information on your remote equipment and provides the most cost effective solution with regards to providing a cellular tariff to suit your entire estate.

Siretta industrial managed modem solutions are used to cellular enable new and existing equipment without any need for product development or the need to understand complicated software application development. The managed modems work out of the box and can be installed immediately in to you application once you have tested the operating process in a test environment.

The managed solutions can be setup simply via a standard mobile phone and uses a remote link to transmit information from your equipment to a central location to record, log and control the application. The Siretta managed modem solution enables remote access to all of the interfaces in your application and can enable you to query a host of sensors, processes, power usage and any number of other important parameters.

The managed modem detects the cellular network provider and can automatically configure the GPRS network settings for the connected network eliminating the need to enter any network specific details (only for dial-up client mode). The only settings which are required to be entered are the IP address / domain of the server where the solution is connecting to and the listening port on the server. Once these settings are configured the unit will establish and maintain a connection to the server once there is data available to be sent. Alternatively you can configure the device to maintain the connection permanently using client maintain. In the event of the network dropping a connection the unit will attempt to reconnect to the server and the software employs a number of techniques to ensure a robust, reliable connection.

The managed modem solution is agnostic of the connected equipment as the software within the unit controls and manages the internet link and TCP connection to route the RS232 serial data over the cellular network. As a result the unit can support any protocol or data type including binary and ASCII data so that the underlying operating system or control software within the equipment does not need to interact with the connected modem solution. This means that there needs to be no understanding of the the connection mechanics which makes connecting any remote equipment quick and simple.
